BEHIND THE CRAFT:

The making of Quilt

Mona Jensen, Creative Director of Tom Wood, finds inspiration in many places: architecture, nature and people around her. For the quilt ring, the idea was to reimagine our signature cushion shape, through the lens of a braided object.

Envisioning how our classic signet ring could look like if quilted, seemed like a fun idea adding a more organic touch to our minimal and classic cushion shape.
MONA JENSEN, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

From the very beginning, the jewellery design team quickly realized that the concept would be too complex to model directly in 3D, and the scale of a real ring was simply too small to experiment with hand wrapping. Still, the challenge became an opportunity to innovate.

The proportions of the design were magnified, allowing it to be physically hand wrapped with suitable materials, exploring texture and form until the vision came to life. Once perfected, the prototype was 3D scanned in-house, transforming the handmade experiment into a digital file.

From there, our suppliers reworked the design and scaled it down to our ring sizes, carefully preserving the intricate details of the quilting method. To add more depth to the final design, subtle black antiquing was applied between the braided bands, creating the illusion of a ring braided with metal strands.

From design to production, sustainability and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything we do. The Quilt rings, like all our jewellery, are crafted exclusively with 100% recycled silver.
